catch up
We leave for PHX tmrw and will be driving back with Grammy on the 27th. Ryleigh will be having surgery on the 29th to remove and biopsy a cyst on the floor of her mouth. The surgery is expected to be about an hour and a half long, and we will stay overnight at Wilford Hall until the anesthesia is totally out of her system. The surgeon assures us that she will rebound quickly and should even be up to trick-or-treating by Friday night. We are still planning on having our Halloween Party on Saturday the 1st, I'm just scaling back my elaborate decorations, etc. a little bit! So the blogs may be sparse here for awhile, but I will keep everyone posted on Roo's recovery! Your prayers are appreciated!!

tragedy strikes
Last night someone who shall remain nameless (wasn't me.) decided to trim Ryleigh's fingernails with clippers instead of nail scissors. What happened next can only be described as an EXTENSIVE injury to the pad of Ryleigh's thumb... A single drop of blood GUSHED from the GAPING wound the size of a paper cut. Ryleigh stared at it frozen in horror. She whimpered slightly as we wiped off the blood and applied a band-aid. However once she caught a glimpse of her bandaged thumb, she began to scream in agony! She is apparently terrified of band-aids! After wailing for about fifteen minutes, she seemed to recover somewhat when dinner was served. However, every few minutes she would catch a glimpse of her injured thumb and would start crying all over again! She was holding the offensive thumb out away from her body, frozen stiff, as if her arm were broken! She walked around like this for an hour or so, until her Daddy took pity on her and removed the scary band-aid. The cut is barely noticable this morning, but when interviewed about the incident, Ryleigh sighs pitifully, stretches out the thumb to show you, and looks back ruefully at Ryan while placing the blame... "Daddy. Ow Wow!"

today in Roo's news....
Ryleigh is officially in trouble today! It's all my fault, but still... so I had a ton of homework to do today b/c I've had a migraine all week and the blurry vision kept me from being able to comnplete it. So I made her a snack and turned on Sid The Science Kid for her in the living room. She has been known to sit entranced and watch the entire 30 minute show before. NOT TODAY! Not when I needed her to! After about 20 minutes of studying, I went out to check on her and this is what I found...

She was EATING lotion! Licking the straw from inside the bottle! And she had somehow managed to climb up on a chair to the table and gotten my can of vanilla almonds open! She sucked the flavoring off them and spit them ALL OVER my living room, kitchen, and bedroom! She then smeared nasty handprints all over Ryan's TV which she KNOWS she is not allowed to touch! (anyone know how you're supposed to clean LCD screens?) And to add insult to injury, I found half of my favorite pair of earrings in her hand. The other half is still missing! So I did what any sane mom would do... I got out my camera and started snapping pics while trying to talk myself out of putting her up for adoption. Then I dunked her in the tub and took her to the park to get out some of that energy. Alas, her wild streak had not ended, and our trip to the park was full of temper tantrums, her burning her hands trying to climb up a hot slide I told her not to, and then, the climax - when she DOVE OFF the top of the slide! Yeah, she jumped straight off, and hit the ground. I thought for sure she was unconscious and had broken at least one bone. She was lying there not moving and screaming bloody murder. Thank God, she was fine, not even a bruise! Crazy daredevil baby!!! Once we got home we spent the rest of the afternoon in extended naptime and reading books in her room (the safest activity I could think of)! I swear, it's gotten to the point where she can get into trouble so fast, I am afraid to even go to the bathroom b/c she could burn the house down! Too bad it's considered child abuse to put her in a cage! But even on disasterous days like today, I can focus on those rare moments when she wants to snuggle or does something so silly and cute. I know this is just a phase, and we'll get throught it!
Here are some more pics from the past few days...
1) Ryleigh is the chubbiest cheerleader at Karis's volleyball games!
2) Ryleigh's first slice of pizza! YUMMY!
3) yup, this pretty much sums up or family...
4) She is glaring him down! lol!
5)inside the bouncehouse - action shot!!!
